Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was founded in 1959 as the second classical university in Slovakia. The university provides a high level of education using the latest scientific data and equipment, and in a broad international context, and cooperates with many educational institutions around the world. Currently, the university has about 10,000 students.

The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University is among the TOP-100 universities in the world and is the second largest educational institution in Slovakia after the Comenius University in Bratislava.

The university provides complete higher education in the humanities, natural sciences, law and medicine. The university offers 109 bachelor’s degree programs, 67 master’s degree programs and 42 PhD degree programs. It is the only university that offers students Certified Interdisciplinary Blocks, consisting of subjects from individual faculties, upon completion of which students receive international certificates. Within the framework of the “Erasmus +” program, the University offers students various opportunities for internships and study abroad at partner universities.

The University is involved in European research environments through the implementation of international research projects, bilateral and intergovernmental agreements, for example with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubno (Russia), with the Swiss center CERN in Geneva, with “European XFEL GmbH” and “DESY” (German Electron Synchrotron) in Hamburg (Germany) and other research centers.
